My project got complicated, as boat projects are want to do. I had corrosion in my rudder stock and decided to replace the rudder with a Jefa rudder, along with a new rudder bearing from Jefa - and the new rudder bearing had to be in a new stern tube, so a big project. I did try and find a replacement rudder bearing to use instead of going with Jefa (as the new rudder shaft dimensions are the same as the original), but I could not find a bearing that would fit in the original stern tube. The project required cutting out the original stern tube and glassing in a new stern tube and then bearing and rudder installation. All turned out well and I'm quite happy with the result. I live in Seattle and purchased the Jefa rudder and bearing through PYI in the Seattle area. I went with the Jefa Self-aligning PETP lower roller bearings type 6T and have been very happy with it.
