Windlass for 1987 Optima 106

Windlass for 1987 Optima 106

Postby LePort » Tue Mar 18, 2014 9:18 am

I want to fit a windlass to my 1987 Optima 106, and I would like any advice I can get. There is limited space, and the only example I know of is a Quick Vertical Rider fitted at the fore end of the anchor locker after reinforcing that section and splitting the locker lid. It seems a good solution as it has a small profile above deck.

Does anyone out there have any advice or alternatives to suggest?

Many thanks

I have a manual Simpson Lawrence Anchorman (now Lewmar) installed just behind the chain locker - see photo attached. This works well in that the anchor chain and rode is stripped directly to the locker.
It is installed just above the small bookcase in the forepeak.

My only regret is that I didn't get the same windlass with motor - but at the time it was more money than I had and I was concerned about weight. Now that I'd like to do it with a power windlass, I cannot find one of the same design and all of the new ones have the oblong stripper built in.

I'd be very interested in what solution you come up with.

Regards, Dan
