Has anyone changed the tachometer unit on a 36SQ without breaking the perspex cover - if so any tips?

Why do you need to get the cover off? We have a 39SQ with a Yanmar engine which suffers from the engine hour meter fading due to moisture. To get the unit working again one way is to remove the complete unit which I believe is released by screws and brackets on the rear holding the tacho in the face plate and putting it in a warm dry place which can get the meter working again. We bought a small hour meter and wired it onto the ignition to avoid further problems. We have some details on how the meter can be replaced but cannot access them until next week but will post details when available.
